  Lacrosse Drills

Try Head Down Trainers for many different field hockey drills. You'll be amazed at the results.

Our experts recommend the following drills.

Field Player Drills field hockey players use head down trainers to improve field hockey skills

  1. Use shuttle lines made up of approximately 4 girls per line on behind the other standing about 20 yars apart.
  2. Player from one line will cradle the ball as she moves toward the opposing line.
  3. When she reaches the halfway point, she will then roll the ball towards the opposing player.
  4. The player receiving the ball will have to her head down to track the ball and execute the ground ball pick-up.
  5. Players will rotate to the back of the lines as they move across the gap.

Second Drill, with the shuttle lines still set up.

  1. Players will now move with the ball towards the opposing player but will now throw the ball to the second person in the opposing line.
  2. The player receiving the ball will catch the ball and then toss it over the shoulder of the player in front of her.
  3. The player in front must track the ball blindly.
  4. She must keep her head down and make the ground ball pick-up.

Goalie Drills

  1. Put on the Head Down Trainers Visual Training Aids
  2. Start by hand tossing the ball to the goalie to get her used to the shortened field of vision.
  3. Begin shooting at a slow to moderate speed at the goalie, being sure to keep the shots within the upper quadrant of the visual area. This will get the player used to the eyewear.
  4. The most effective method of training with Head Down Trainers is to provide repititious shots at waist level. First 20 to the left side and 20 to the right.
  5. Then move the shots to foot level. (20 left, 20 right)
  6. Finish with shots directly between the goalies legs at the feet or bounce shots. (20 left, 20 right)
  7. For best results, repeat this drill once every practice.

(we recommend hand tossing at first and then moving to the stick to avoid injury)
